Remember the days when a library publicity campaign was painstakingly planned and only launched after months of working out every detail in order to keep a tight rein on the message to be delivered? Fast forward to the freewheeling and fast-paced age of social media, where imagination, instant gratification, and selfies reign supreme. What’s the best way to capture the attention of social media devotees? You make them an offer they can’t resist by giving them something to ‘talk’ about. Our secret weapon: My #HuntLibrary, an Instagram contest encouraging students to submit their photos of our new library. Students explored every nook and cranny of the library to get the best photos, and in the process did an amazing job of exposing all that Hunt Library has to offer from the user perspective. We couldn’t have done it better ourselves … seriously!
This lightening talk will discuss the genesis of My #HuntLibrary, the technical challenges involved in getting it launched, and look at some of the incredible photos that made the project such a success.
